Academic Experience Strategic plan 2016-2021 goals:

GOAL 1: Promote student success with the delivery of high impact programs designed to connect students with academic support.

  • Strategy 1: Develop additional support services and programming for student groups: first-generation and minority students, international students, iChas students, provisional students, students participating in bridge programs,  Cougar Advantage.
  • Strategy 2: Provide academic advising and academic services (tutoring, SI leaders, peer academic coaches, etc) that support student success and graduation
  • Strategy 3: Provide comprehensive introduction to academic and student support services during orientation and programs/services designed for first year students.

GOAL 2: Create transformative learning experiences.

  • Strategy 1: Create explicit curricular and co-curricular linkages that help students connect in-class learning with out-of-class opportunities for leadership experiences, personal development, community engagement, and application of new knowledge.
  • Strategy 2: Increase collaboration among all AEX units and throughout the campus to enhance excellence in undergraduate education.
  • Strategy 3: Increase opportunities for student leadership and peer mentoring opportunities.

GOAL 3:  Build a local, national, and international reputation that highlights the work done by the Academic Experience units and provides valuable exposure to the College of Charleston.

  • Strategy 1: Enhance opportunities for staff development and engagement and foster an inclusive environment. Foster staff retention and recognition.
  • Strategy 2: Enhance visibility through national and international exposure by presenting, publishing, and marketing the quality of AEX programs and services.
  • Strategy 3: AEX staff will strengthen its leadership role in, and contributions to, the campus, the community, and the higher education profession.
