As the Director of the Center for Academic Performance and Persistence, Michelle enforces all of the academic standards for the College. In addition, she supports students who are attempting to manage difficult academic issues and assists students who wish to return to the College through our STEP (Successful Transitions through Educational Planning) conditional readmission program. Michelle also works closely in the development and implementation of the IMPACT programs, the College’s support programs for targeted groups of first-year students.  Michelle is a Gallup certified Strengths Coach and a Certified Strengths-Based Education Facilitator. She hopes to use her knowledge and skills in this area to bring a strengths-based approach to the College and by doing so increase levels of hope and engagement throughout the entire campus.

Previous to this position, Michelle worked as the Director of Sports Medicine for Athletics and as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Health and Human Performance.  She feels lucky enough to be able to continue to teach one class a semester as an adjunct faculty member.  Michelle's research and professional development interests lie in strengths-based support initiatives, corporate wellness and injury prevention for college basketball referees.

Michelle holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education/Athletic Training from the College of Charleston and a Master’s Degree in Physical Education, Exercise and Sports Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She is proud to be able to use her skills and talents to assist students here at her alma mater.
